Islamic Calendar 2027: Hijri Months and Key Dates (1448–1449)
Islamic calendar 2027 with expected dates for Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Arafah, Eid al-Adha, Islamic New Year 1449 and Ashura, plus all twelve Hijri months.
This guide explains common views and sources. It is not a fatwa. For your own situation, ask a scholar or imam you trust.
The Islamic (Hijri) calendar is lunar: twelve months of 29 or 30 days, about 354 days in a year. That is why Ramadan, the two Eids and every other Islamic date move about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. This page lays out the whole of 2027 in one place: the months of 1448 and the start of 1449, and the expected dates of the events most people plan around.
All dates below are expected. They follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; the actual date in your country depends on moon sighting or the local authority and may differ by a day. For the live, always-updated version, use the Hijri date converter.

The twelve months of 1448 and the start of 1449

How to read these dates
The Islamic day begins at sunset
A Hijri date starts at Maghrib the evening before the Gregorian date shown. "1 Ramadan = Monday 8 February" means Ramadan begins at sunset on Sunday 7 February: the first tarawih is prayed that Sunday evening, and the first fast begins at Fajr on Monday. The same applies to the odd nights of Ramadan and to the night of Eid. The Hijri calendar explained page goes through this in detail.
Calculated vs sighted
Umm al-Qura is a calculated calendar. It fixes the month start by the position of the moon at Makkah, so it can be printed years in advance. Many countries (Morocco, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and others) announce each month only after a confirmed sighting of the crescent, following the hadith to fast when you see it and break the fast when you see it, and to complete thirty days if it is hidden (Bukhari 1909 / Muslim 1081). Turkey and several European bodies use astronomical calculation with their own criteria. The result is that two neighbouring countries can start Ramadan a day apart. Moon sighting explained describes why.
Dates for planning
For booking holiday from work, school permissions or masjid programmes, the safe approach is:
- Ramadan start: plan for Monday 8 February 2027, with Sunday 7 February as a possible early start in a few countries (unlikely, but possible if a sighting is accepted on the evening of 6 February).
- Eid al-Fitr: block both Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 March 2027 if you can.
- Eid al-Adha: block Sunday 16 and Monday 17 May 2027.
- Ashura: Tuesday 15 June or Wednesday 16 June 2027.
Worked example: how many days until Ramadan?
From 22 October 2026 (1 Jumada al-Ula 1448, approximately) to 8 February 2027 is 109 days. Counting in Hijri months: the rest of Jumada al-Ula, then Jumada al-Akhirah, Rajab and Sha'ban, about three and a half lunar months. If you want to prepare, the Ramadan preparation checklist is built around exactly this run-up, starting from Rajab.
Fasting days through the year
Beyond Ramadan, the calendar carries a number of recommended fasts, each covered in its own guide:
- Six days of Shawwal: any six days from 2 Shawwal, i.e. from 10 March 2027.
- The first nine days of Dhul Hijjah: 7–15 May 2027, especially the Day of Arafah on 15 May.
- Ashura: 15 June 2027, with the 9th (14 June) recommended alongside it.
- The white days, 13–15 of each month, and Mondays and Thursdays.
Why the dates shift every year
A lunar month is the time from one new moon to the next, about 29.53 days. Twelve of them make about 354.4 days, so the Hijri year is 10–12 days shorter than the solar year. Ramadan 2026 began around 18 February; Ramadan 2027 begins around 8 February; Ramadan 2028 is expected around 28 January. Over about 33 years Ramadan moves through every season and returns to the same Gregorian dates. This is also why Ramadan 2027 brings short fasts in Europe and North America (11–13 hours) and long ones in the southern hemisphere; see the fast length comparison.
The Qur'an mentions the crescents as timings for people and for the Hajj (2:189), and the phases of the moon as a way to know the number of years and the reckoning (10:5). The calendar above is that reckoning, laid out for one year.

Questions and answers
What Hijri year is 2027?
Most of 2027 falls in 1448 AH. The year 1449 AH is expected to begin on Sunday 6 June 2027, so 2027 spans two Hijri years: 1448 until 5 June and 1449 from 6 June onward.
When is Ramadan in 2027?
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027 and last 29 days, with Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March 2027. The actual date in your country depends on moon sighting or the local authority and may differ by a day.
When is Eid al-Adha in 2027?
Eid al-Adha (10 Dhul Hijjah 1448) is expected on Sunday 16 May 2027, with the Day of Arafah on Saturday 15 May. Countries that sight the moon locally may be a day later.
Why do the dates say 'expected'?
The dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia, which is based on astronomical calculation. Many countries confirm each month by actual moon sighting, so a month can begin a day earlier or later than the calculated date.
Is there a second Ramadan in 2027?
No. Because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, two Ramadans in one Gregorian year only happen roughly every 33 years. The next such year is expected to be 2030.
